Installation photos "Show cases" (Installation 2007)
The installation was made for the two-person show under the general title "Polymer" that was held in Lola Nikolaou Art Gallery in Thessalonica in May 2007. Participating artists: Ingo Duennebier, Fotini Kariotaki
"Polymer" is the idea that characterizes the world of plastics. It refers, first of all, to their material substance. But what is the substance of plastic matter, if not the process of its creation? The constituent elements of plastics are eternal. What is changed in the process of their creation is the reformation of the constituent elements by increases in their molecular weight.
So, the installation "Showcases" of Fotini Kariotaki is structured on the logic governing the generative process of plastic matter.
The choice of plastic material by the artist for her installation reflects, of course, her agonizing over questions regarding the equivocal essence of plastics. It replicates her own ambivalence about the useful and safe parameters for man's coping with plastic matter, and also the negative side of use of plastics by man, including its unfavorable impact on human social behavior and the natural environment.
Poised between the aesthetic and the hideous, the safe and the perilous, the useful and the irrelevant, the valuable and the worthless, the artist indirectly discount the present and surmise the future.
